Owner of Robbed Bar Satisfied with Arrests

Five suspects have been arrested in connection to the robbery of a South Gate bar.

The owner of on Atlantic Avenue expressed satisfaction with the work of the South Gate Police Department (SGPD). Last Friday at 11:30 p.m. the  the Ixtapa

“I was surprised at how [the suspects] were so quickly captured,” said the owner of Ixtapa Bar, who asked that his name not be released out of fear of a violent reprisal. “This is not the first time that it happens to me.”

The bar was also robbed at gunpoint around 20 years ago, but no arrests were ever made, said the owner Ixtapa. 

The SGPD after gathering information from the scene of the crime was able to locate the car that was allegedly used by the suspects at the Imperial Motel in Hawthorne, California.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012, one of the alleged suspects was spotted near the car.  Later, at 10: 30 a.m. SGPD officers stopped over the suspected vehicle as it left the motel.

During the stop, the stolen property from the bar was retrieved and a shotgun that was allegedly used during the robbery was also confiscated. Officers also impounded two vehicles and arrested five suspects in connection to the bar robbery. 

The owner was not present at the bar during the time of the robbery, but admitted to being very tense upon hearing about the incident.  However, the quick response by the SGPD helped ease his concerns.

“I felt desperate,” confessed the owner. “But, the [SGPD] arrived quickly, asked questions and even came back the following day to investigate more.”
