Police Respond to Failed Robbery

The suspect was not successful in his attempt to steal a gold chain.

Last night, at approximately 9:05 p.m., the South Gate Police Department (SGPD) responded to an attempted robbery on South Alameda Street in South Gate.  An adult female reported that a man attempted to steal her gold chain.

“The suspect did not get away with the victim's chain because it broke off and fell,” said the SGPD Watch Commander on duty. “She did not sustain any injuries.”

Police officers were on scene and a helicopter was also used in the search for the suspect. However, the SGPD was not able to arrest the suspect in question. 

The police have described the alleged gold snatcher as an adult African-American male with a striped shirt.
