School Supply Giveaway to Feature Parent Workshops, Health Screenings

Rosa Parks Elementary hosts event produced by District African American Advisory Parent Council

The District African American Advisory Parent Council (DAAAPC) will host a school supply giveaway for children in grades kindergarten through 5th grade as part of its inaugural African American Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 22 at Rosa Parks Elementary School, 3900 Agnes Street.

Volunteers will distribute notebooks, pencils, erasers and folders on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event will also include parent workshops on Common Core and Lynwood Unified’s Parent Portal. Free blood pressure screenings and health check-ups, as well as child finger-printing kits will be available from community-based providers at no charge.

Event partners include First Credit Union, Walmart and Office Depot. Those who attend are welcome to enjoy free food and enter a raffle to win prizes.
