“Public Works personnel is working diligently to restore the lights,” said Lieutenant Frank “Pico” Rivera, who said that they will most likely be fixed by some point on Friday. “ [They] have identified the problem to be a `visa’ switch relay, which controls the affected area.”

The streetlights on Long Beach Boulevard, which are located between Southern Avenue and Tweedy Boulevard, are currently without power. Power has also been lost on the streetlights on the portions of Iowa street, Illinois Street, and Ohio Street that are located between Long Beach Boulevard and Garden View Avenue.

The SGPD would like to warn residents in this affected area to be careful, and to not be distracted by portable gadgets.

“We would like to citizens to pay attention all the time,” said Lt. Rivera, who added that any electronic device has the ability to distract a person, while attracting a potential burglar.  “[They can] be potentially stolen since most of them glow in the dark with their lit screens.”

Direct line to SG Dispatch is (323) 563-5436.  Emergency calls should be made to 911.  Non-emergency calls can be made to (323) 563-5400. The SGPD recommends residents to have all of these number preset to their mobile phones.
