Social Media Expert to Speak at Chamber of Commerce Networking Event

Advertising and marketing dollars can be a huge expense for small businesses during these tough economic times.

So if you are a business owner who is having trouble coming up with cost effective ways of expanding your business, you might be interested in the upcoming networking event hosted by the South Gate Chamber of Commerce at restaurant.

“More and more statistics are proving that people are going to [social media sites, like Facebook and Twitter,] rather than your Web site,” said Catalina Salazar, executive director of the South Gate Chamber of Commerce. “You want to make sure [your business is] easily accessible.”

The speaker at the event will be Alex Marie Manrique, a social media consultant and owner of My Social Calling, a company that focuses on using social media services to enhance small businesses.

“[Manrique] will consult with businesses on their specific needs and on the best ways to utilize social media for marketing purposes,” said Salazar.

The event will also be an opportunity to network with other local businesses. The chamber believes this traditional approach to increasing business should also be considered when building a company.  

“Any networking event is very helpful to your business,” said Salazar. “You always want to grow your relationships.”

The event will take place at La Perla del Mar, on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The tickets will be $20 at the door and includes dinner.
