Some Lanes on the 710 Have Opened Following Tanker Fire

Area residents are advised to give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations in the morning.

The No. 1 and 2 lanes of the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway north of Washington Boulevard just south of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, have re-opened following an oil truck fire, according to CalTrans.

The No. 3, 4, and 5 lanes will remain closed until at least 5 a.m. Monday, Caltrans said

Workers were using pressure washers to clear the debris and are checking the structural integrity of the girder before re-opening the remaining lanes, according to Caltrans spokesman Patrick Chandler.

The prolonged closure was triggered by the 9:39 a.m. crash of a tanker truck carrying 8,000 gallons of crude oil that later erupted into flames. Damage includes 50 feet of destroyed bridge railing, 60 feet of destroyed guard rail, the partial melting of an overhead sign and storm drains filled with crude oil, according to Caltrans.

The eastbound and westbound connectors from the SR-60 to the 710 have also re-opened.
