South Gate Police Nab Two Illegal Firework Sellers

The South Gate Police Department has confirmed that two more suspects have been arrested, as part of their continued crackdown on the local trade of illegal fireworks.

 

On Tuesday, July 03, 2012, the South Gate Police Department conducted another undercover investigation based on information that they received on illegal firework sales in South Gate.   

“During the investigation undercover officers made two separate purchases of illegal fireworks,” said Captain Keith Hupp of the SGPD. “After each undercover operation officers arrested the suspects for sales and possession of illegal fireworks.”

The SGPD has been cracking hard with its illegal fireworks detail for the past few weeks. Two arrests were made in this latest bust, and several fireworks were also seized.

“This brings the total to 14 arrests during the past weeks investigations into illegal fireworks sales,” said Capt. Hupp. “All illegal fireworks that were seized were photographed as evidence.”

Several boxes filled with illegal fireworks were taken from both sellers. The SGPD also confiscated some cash and a vehicle associated with this illegal trade.

The fireworks were all given to the Los Angeles County Fire Department for destruction.

The list of items seized by the SGPD  were the following:

  • One large box containing several illegal fireworks
  • Four large boxes containing illegal fireworks 
  • One large box containing illegal fireworks and a several sky rockets seized from Suspect 1’s residence.
  • One box containing several fireworks and one box containing several M-150s.
  • $601 seized from one suspect. 
  • 2003 GMC Yukon
