South Gate Police on the Hunt for Suspect with Gun
Both a police helicopter and canine unit were dispatched to assist with the search in the Hollydale area.

The South Gate Police Department (SGPD) is currently on the lookout for a suspect that is believed to be carrying a gun. The suspect was reportedly spotted near the cross street of Garfield Avenue and Taft Avenue in Hollydale.
Police dispatched helicopter to the area, but have yet to find the alleged gunman.

“We set up a perimeter and we are looking for him,” said Sargent Manuel Arana of the SGPD. “We have not confirmed whether he has a gun or not.”
The SGPD has also sent in a canine unit to help with the search of the suspect.

"Come out with your hands up before we send in the dogs," said the SGPD through loudspeakers, according to news tip sent to us by a South Gate resident at around 9:45 p.m.
The SGPD told Patch that such a warning is routine when a canine unit becomes involved. Further adding that residents in the area should stay indoors and call the police if they see anything strange.
The suspect, who ran from police upon their arrival to the area, has been described a Hispanic male with a gray baseball cap and long sleeve black shirt.
UPDATE 2:30 p.m on September 12, 2012: The SGPD has contacted South Gate - Lynwood Patch Latino and issued a correction to a previous statement. No suspect was arrested in the operation. However, a person was questioned by police, but cleared of any suspicion.
UPDATE 11:00 a.m. on September 12, 2012: This morning the SGPD informed South Gate - Lynwood Patch Latino that a suspect was apprehended in this operation. The police told Patch that there were actually two "gang members" and that the second suspect still at large. No gun was found on the suspect that was arrested.
