Police Report Three Gang Related Assaults
The number of assault related crimes have a tendency to increase during hot weather, said police.

The South Gate Police Department (SGPD) has informed South Gate Patch Latino that only
“There is no indication that the other 9 assaults over the past week were related to one another,” said Captain Keith Hupp of the SGPD.

The first of the three related assaults occurred at around 7:00 p.m. on August 1st. Officers responded to a call of “shots fired,” on 9300 block of San Luis Avenue. Police determined that the occupants of a grey BMW SUV fired the rounds.
The bullets hit a residence but did not injure anyone.

Approximately 20 minutes later officers responded to another call on Atlantic Avenue and Wood Avenue. The suspects were said to have pointed a gun to person in the area. They then fled in a grey BMW SUV with the same description as the prior incident.
Later at 10:00 p.m. two suspects entered a bar on Tweedy Boulevard. They are said to have pointed a handgun at a person that was also frequenting the bar. Their car was reported to be the same BMW that was spotted by witnesses in the previous incidents.
The SGPD was able to locate the grey BMW SUV. The driver fled on foot but the passenger was apprehended.
“The victims of the above shootings made positive identification of the suspect who was detained and the vehicle involved from the 3 earlier incidents,” said Capt. Hupp.
The SGPD told South Gate Patch Latino that it is not uncommon for increases in the number of assaults during the summer. The weather is partly to blame for the reason.
“We do occasionally see an increase in assault type crimes during the summer,” said Capt. Hupp. “This is probably due to a higher percentage of residents being outdoors due to the high temperatures.”
The SGPD reports that the two suspects are local South Gate gang members. The vehicle was impounded and the investigation is currently ongoing.
