Spring Forward Means Recycle Your Batteries in Carson

Waste Management of Southern California and the City of Carson remind residents that spring is the perfect time to recycle old batteries

As daylight savings time begins on March 8 and Californians set their clocks ahead an hour, Waste Management of Southern California and the City of Carson are reminding residents that while they are replacing batteries in their current devices, old batteries have certain protocols that need to be followed when it comes to their disposal.

“It’s important to check clocks, smoke detectors and other devices around the home this time of year to ensure that they are working properly,” said Janine Hamner, manager for community and municipal affairs for Waste Management of Southern California. “But it’s just as important to make sure you’re correctly recycling batteries no longer in use because they contain toxic chemicals, such as mercury and cadmium, and do not belong in the trash.”

To ensure batteries are disposed of properly, Waste Management and the City of Carson have installed three conveniently located battery-recycling kiosks: at Carson City Hall at 701 E. Carson Street; at Carson Community Center at 801 E. Carson Street; and at the Carson Public Works Office at 2390 E. Dominguez Street.
