'America's Most Wanted' Man Sentenced to 50 Years for Killing San Gabriel Teen

PASADENA, CA - A man who was featured on the TV show "America's Most Wanted" was sentenced Tuesday to 50 years to life in prison for the April 2005 shooting death of a 17-year-old boy near a high school in San Gabriel.

Daniel Guerrero, 29, was convicted in May of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the April 27, 2005, killing of Ryan Dasalla, who was shot near Gabrielino High School.

Jurors also found true allegations that Guerrero personally discharged a firearm and that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

He was found living in Tijuana under the pseudonym "Joel Lopez" and brought back to the United States in September 2013, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Authorities said Guerrero and his older brother, Gabriel, attacked Dasalla because they thought he was associated with members of a tagging crew who had beaten their younger brother the night before.

Gabriel Guerrero was convicted in August 2010 of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder and was sentenced in October 2010 to 84 years to life in state prison. A three-justice panel from California's 2nd District Court of Appeal rejected his appeal in May 2012, and the California Supreme Court refused in July 2012 to review the case against him.

Co-defendant Sarah Toledo was convicted of the same charges and sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison. Her appeal was also denied.

An indictment handed up against the three alleged that Toledo provided Daniel Guerrero with a description of the victim.
