National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has provided a way to safely dispose of unneeded medications, including those that are old, unwanted or expired, for 16 years. Local and federal law enforcement agencies have collected more than 20.4 million pounds of medication since the program began.

Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps or illegal drugs. Liquid medications, such as cough syrup, should remain in their original containers with the caps tightly sealed.
