For a number of years I have gone to Skid Row to help feed the down and out. Last Friday while making my rounds on Skid Row, I ran into this humorous sight. A factory fire the night before had destroyed the contents of a fabric warehouse. The scorched contents and remnants of the blaze had been piled up on 7th street blocking a main artery into downtown.
As I watched a homeless scavenger with his cart pass, he stopped to survey the scene and then in a joyous frenzy started to pull what items he could salvage and put them in his cart. It was quite a sight to see.
