Blog: Bestselling Author to Speak about Autism

Areva Martin is a popular and charming author and TV guest who speaks about autism, advocacy, and family rights.

Areva Martin’s book “The Everyday Advocate: Standing Up for
Your Child with Autism and Other Special Needs” soared to the top of Amazon.com bestseller lists upon release in 2010.

Critics said that it was the most compelling and comprehensive book to date on the issues of the special needs community and the importance of advocacy.

Areva will make an Author Night appearance at the South Pasadena Public Library on Thursday, February 7 at 7 p.m. Also featured will be local teen singing sensation Matthew Myronowicz who finished second during the LA tryouts for the “America’s Got Talent” TV show.

The free program presented by the Library, the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, Institute for the Redesign of Learning, and the Kiwanis Club of South Pasadena will showcase the accomplished and multi-award winning attorney, author, and disability rights advocate who has been profiled in Redbook, Parenting, Ebony Magazine, and the Los Angeles Times. Areva Martin is a nationally recognized children’s and women’s legal rights activist who has appeared on The Dr. Phil Show, Anderson Cooper’s 360, the Dr. Drew Show, and Good Morning America, as well as a wide variety of national news programs.
Areva’s first book, “Journey to the Top” is a popular career guide for
professional women.

In addition to being a popular author and on-camera legal expert, Areva Martin is the founding and managing partner of Martin & Martin, LLP, one of Los Angeles’ largest female and African American-owned law firms in California. She is also founder and President of Special Needs Network, a non-profit created specifically to raise awareness of the issues surrounding autism. SNN has provided services to over 30,000 families. Areva Martin has received numerous awards including the Los Angeles County Women of the Year Award, KCET Local Hero Award, and the California Association of Black Lawyers Community Champion Award. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three children.

The Library Community Room is located at 1115 El Centro
Street. Admission is free and no tickets or reservations are necessary. Doors
will open at 6:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
