Dadmissions: Oh, To Be 7 Years Old Again
Dadmissions heads back to school at Monterey Hills. Check out my daily diary on Facebook at Dadmissions The Book

It was back to school night at . All the teachers were there. All the classrooms were decked out. Every little desk with the little chairs which rose six inches off the floor were in place. Projects were on the walls.
And it was crystal clear to me: I want to be seven again.
Ok maybe not forever. But how about for a couple of days?

These kids have it made. They're in a great school. They have a great staff. And they get to learn, read, play and create all day long. A look around Alicia's classroom showed what each kid had done on summer vacation (Alicia talked about our trip to Hawaii), what each kid hoped to learn throughout the year (Alicia said "harder science") and what each kid thought of second graders (she said second graders are so many different things).
We got to sit and speak with Ms Muniz and learn about the reward system called Muniz Money. It's basically like a good student allowance where you get play money or give up play money depending on your behavior and actions in class.

FYI, I could use a little Muniz Money to help pay the mortgage, or our morning Starbucks.
Kids have it made. You don't realize it when you're seven, or eight, or nine -- just how awesome school can be. I left Monterey Hills thinking back to my time at the little Heights Elementary where I grew up. It was a long time ago, but it was pretty darn fun.
Our kids are pretty lucky. Maybe we need to remind 'em every once in a while.
