Carrying your books and DVDs home is only the start.

The ‘Fitness for Life’ Collection was launched in 2010 by the , the and the Rotary Club of South Pasadena. The partnership was forged to offer a free and easy-to-use assortment of new books and DVDs on fitness, exercise and athletics.
The project was started because of our society’s increasingly sedentary lifestyles that are overrun with computers, televisions and cell phones. The library provides better resources to help locals become more healthy and fit. Studies show that people who are physically active are happier, healthier and suffer fewer illnesses.
Reading and movie watching needn’t necessarily contribute to adverse health or even Couch Potato Syndrome, a fast-growing affliction that threatens countless individuals and the productivity of our nation as a whole. The titles in the ‘Fitness for Life’ Collection provide expert coaching guidance and inspiration that can increase one’s vitality. They can also enhance the enjoyment of physical activity, provide inspiration and goals for workouts and practice sessions, and help prevent injuries, soreness, and wasted time.
The ‘Fitness for Life ‘collection now contains more than 250 new titles on walking, running, bicycling, golf, skateboarding, weightlifting and virtually all popular team and individual sports. Camping, hunting, and fishing are covered too. There’s also a healthy array of titles on nutrition, weight loss and coaching.

The latest batch of ‘Fitness for Life’ books are housed in a special bin by the ‘New Books’ display while the others that are not checked out are stored on the regular nonfiction shelves. ‘Fitness for Life’ brochures are available in the special bin. Each of the ‘Fitness for Life’ materials checks out for three weeks and any of them can be placed on hold.
