Patch Blog: Now What Do I Do With My Money?

Perspective seems scarcest when it feels like its time to run for your life. It's not as if we haven't been here before, but it doesn't get any easier. This should help.

It is Thursday, Aug. 4 in the late afternoon. Since last week, I have been very focused on preparing for a Retirement & Estate Planning workshop I’m conducting for a corporate client tomorrow morning.

I have been focused on the literature and presentation of the way I approach managing investment risk, the structured approach to investing. Ironic, isn’t it, that the world’s stock markets decided to misbehave on such a grand scale on the day before the workshop? But, what better time for the information, right?

Worst loser around the globe was Large International companies, the EAFE index gave back -6.98% of its value. There weren’t any winners but Gold only lost -0.56%. US markets were middle of the pack with the S&P500 off -4.78% and the Russell 2000 lower by -5.95%. These are impressive one-day declines. I’m sure we’ll soon see some caparisons to past one-day sells offs. There have been some doozies, too.

So, what to do? Right? That’s the question on everyone’s mind. What’s the right perspective on all this? Which way should I turn with my money?

Gordon Murray tells it the way I will tell it tomorrow. Enjoy the video.
