Patch Blog: Emerging Artists Stage debuts at SP's Eclectic Music Fest
Five talented, young bands shine at Emerging Artists Stage.
Yesterday marked the annual with the first appearance of the Emerging Artists Stage at BurkeTriolo Studio. Five exciting, local bands took the stage.
The night kicked off with Junk, a brother and sister duo Chloe and Julian Chaidez. 18 year-old Julian creates beats reminiscent of the 80's that mesh perfectly with Chloe's breathy, angelic voice. Local garage band favorite, Torches in Trees, handed out free CD's with their latest unreleased music, complete with handmade cover art done by drummer Eric Fabbro. Of course, after their killer set there wasn't a single CD left. If you missed them last night, you can catch the psych-rock trio tomorrow night (Monday, May 9th) at Lot 1 Cafe in Echo Park.
The night continued with LACHSA's very own Hazel who had a captivated audience for the entire hour long set. A House for Lions gave a refreshingly energetic performance. The always charismatic frontman, Daniel Norman had every mom and teenage girl in the crowd swooning to his catchy folk-rock progressions.

The night ended on a high note with Kitten, a band that is very dear to my heart. The venue and adjacent sidewalk was packed even before the band took the stage. Singer Chloe Chaidez (also from Junk) has incredible stage presence for a girl of only 16. Kitten ended the set with a fast paced song "Kitten with a Whip," during which Chloe managed to climb her way up to the rafters above the stage and jump 10 feet back down, just in time for her last hoorah of Karen O-like cries. Kitten's one-of-a-kind show is not to be missed! They take off tomorrow for a month long tour of the UK with LA native band Funeral Party. Make sure to pick up their EP "Sunday School" on iTunes or Amazon.
