Patch Blog: Check Out San Marino's New Fitness Center For Free

Want a free pass to a new boutique gym in San Marino?

If you want to get into shape but don’t want to join an impersonal corporate gym, the new Mission Fitness Center in San Marino maybe just what you’re seeking.

Fitness professionals Wendy and Chris Grace, who will launch the center on June 4th, say that one of their primary goals is to treat people like people, “not just another number,” Wendy explains. “Here, everyone will know your name.”

This boutique gym is in a beautiful brick building in San Marino’s Mission District, at 2451 Mission Street, just east of Garfield Avenue. The space has the sunny, airy feel of an art studio, with high ceilings, exposed brick and wood walls, and huge paned windows. The Graces plan to display art by local artists on some of the walls.

Along with the boutique environment, the Graces intend to pamper their clients with free amenities like morning coffee, towels and much more. They will also limit memberships, so it will never be too crowded.

The gym is serious about fitness, and offers a wide range of fitness equipment, including a cardio area, free weights for experienced exercisers and athletes, and a circuit training area that’s more manageable for beginners.

With over 36 years of experience as personal trainers between them, the Graces pride themselves on the diverse clientele they’ve served, from young teenagers to seniors in their 90s, from beginners to elite athletes and dancers. “We’ve had a little bit of everything, and we will continue that tradition,” the Graces explain.

With novice and senior clients in particular, Wendy says, “We don’t believe in over-training. We truly believe in starting people with babysteps. We’re very much into getting them back in touch with their bodies. And we teach them how to move properly, so they don’t injure themselves. “

Unlike many chain gyms, Mission Fitness Center will offer a straightforward fee structure: A monthly fee, competitive with other gyms in the area, plus any private training sessions that the client wishes to purchase. “Beyond that, there won’t be any hidden membership fees of any kind,” says Wendy.

Both Chris and Wendy have numerous fitness and nutrition credentials, including certificates from the American Council on Exercise, the International Sports Sciences Association, and the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
