Patch Blog: Halloween Movie Night

Filled with adventure and mystery, try League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It will entertain you with its special effects and CG. Rent it at Videotheque on Mission.

“Hello My Freaky Darlings.”

To start off Movie Night right and to act as a prelude to my Countdown to Halloween, here is a movie suggestion I hope you’ll enjoy—an oldie (sort of), but a goodie: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

A movie where literary paranormals and characters come to life: Dorian Gray (from Oscar Wilde’s Picture of Dorian Gray), Mina Harker (from Bram Stoker’s Dracula), Skinner (based off the character from H.G. Wells’ The Invisible Man), Dr. Jekyll and Hyde (from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), Captain Nemo (from Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea), Allan Quartermain (from Sir HR Haggard's King Solomon's Mines), and Tom Sawyer (from Mark Twain's books Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn).

Filled with adventure and a bit of mystery, this movie will entertain you with its special effects and CG. Plus, it’ll definitely give you a chance to sit back and relax. Not to mention the fact that it has my all-time favorite Bond and Scottish actor, Sean Connery as one of the main characters and for younger viewers out there it has Shane West from ER and the CW’s Nikita as Tom Sawyer.

So if you’re looking for a movie to watch tonight, try League of Extraordinary Gentlemen which you can rent at on Mission or on Fair Oaks. And if after watching the movies you want to learn more about each character, you can borrow some of the books at the South Pasadena Library :) I recommend starting with Oscar Wilde’s Picture of Dorian Gray.

Let me know what you think of the movie or of any of the books mentioned.  Though if you cite any specific details of the movie or books, please start off your comment with the warning “Spoiler Alert”—just in case.
