First United Methodist Church of Glendale

On Friday, September 11, 2026, Pasadena-based choral ensemble voices/LA invites members of the Glendale, Pasadena, and greater Los Angeles communities to gather for Silence into Song: 2,977 Voices Remembered. This free evening of remembrance and reflection marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a live performance of Mozart’s Requiem. Presented in partnership with Glendale First United Methodist Church (GFUMC), the concert aligns with GFUMC’s mission to serve Los Angeles as a sanctuary of radical welcome, healing mind, body, and spirit across diverse communities.
The concert is free and open to the public. This tribute is made possible through generous underwriting from donors and patrons from our community. Voluntary contributions will benefit the Widows, Orphans &amp; Disabled Firefighter's Fund (<a href="https://www.wodff.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">www.wodff.org</a>), providing vital assistance to the families of first responders.
The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. on September 11 at 134 N. Kenwood Street in Glendale, offering community members a space for remembrance, reflection, and connection through music. Performed with full orchestra and four guest soloists, the program honors the 2,977 lives lost with Mozart's masterpiece alongside select works dedicated to memory, solidarity, and hope. This performance carries forward a global tradition born on the first anniversary of 9/11, when musicians worldwide staged a rolling performance of Mozart’s Requiem across time zones. Twenty-four years later, voices/LA renews that international legacy of healing through choral music.
"Music provides a vocabulary for grief and hope when words fall short," says Dr. John Sutton, Artistic Director of voices/LA. "Gathering on this 25th anniversary allows us to transform shared silence into a collective song of remembrance and community resilience."

Founded by John Sutton following a landmark holiday performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall, voices/LA is becoming one of Southern California's premier auditioned choral ensembles. Composed of elite, auditioned vocalists drawn from five different counties across the Los Angeles metropolitan region, the ensemble acts as a powerful artistic bridge for the greater Southern California community. Guided by a mission to use the transformative power of music as a vehicle for healing and solidarity, voices/LA performs a diverse, challenging repertoire that addresses profound shared human experiences. In July 2026, voices/LA was hand-selected by Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore to perform his score for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in four sold-out concerts with the Pacific Symphony at the Peacock Theater. Entering its second season (2026–2027), voices/LA continues its mission of connection and healing through song. His extensive work with choral and orchestral ensembles throughout Southern California and across the globe has established him as a prominent force in the regional arts landscape of Los Angeles and Southern California.

Join Toots McApplesauce on Friday, October 9, from 7:00–9:00 p.m. at Visionarium Live Italian in South Pasadena for Only Slightly Misbehaving, a vintage-inspired musical comedy cabaret where old Hollywood elegance meets a gloriously wandering train of thought.
Toots wants to be a lady. Unfortunately, her brain wants to be a junk drawer. Through classic jazz standards, Great American Songbook favorites, original musical parody, character comedy, storytelling, and playful audience interaction, she attempts to maintain her dignity while her mind quietly goes on vacation. Between the music, the memories, and whatever she came into the room to say, the evening may wander delightfully off course.
Behind Toots is Susan Sassi, a Los Angeles-based vocalist, actor, comedy writer, and cabaret performer whose work blends vintage entertainment with sharp contemporary humor. A graduate of Point Park Conservatory’s Musical Theatre program, Susan has also trained with UCB, iO, Second City, and the Walnut Street Theatre Acting Apprenticeship.
Whether you love classic jazz, vintage cabaret, character comedy, or simply appreciate a woman desperately trying to keep an evening classy, Only Slightly Misbehaving promises music, laughter, glamour, and just the right amount of mischief.
