Children's Orchestra Benefit for Typhoon Haiyan Survivors

The renowned Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra will perform a concert to raise money for survivors of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The benefit will take place on Friday, December 13, from 7 to 8 pm at Mission Community United Methodist Church, 9032 Mission Drive in Rosemead.

The November 8 storm  claimed thousands of lives and caused massive destruction, notes Reynaldo Eusebio, associate pastor of the church, and rebuilding could take years.  Proceeds from the concert will go to the Haiyan Typhoon Relief Fund through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). “I am thankful to all the individuals and organizations, including the world-famous Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra, who are making efforts to help our ‘Kababayans’ (Filipinos),” said Eusebio.

The Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra (LACO) based in South Pasadena, draws children of many different heritages from throughout greater Los Angeles.  The award-winning orchestra is directed by Susan Pascale. “Helping people in the Philippines will be an honor for us,” Pascale says.“This is a terrible situation that touches many families in this community, including several of our orchestra members who have a Filipino heritage.”  LACO is made up of 60 children who play violin, viola, cello and bass.

The suggested donation at the door is $10 per person. Checks should be made out to UMCOR, with "Typhoon Haiyan" on the memo line.
