This year’s recipients of the “Service Above Self” award will be local businessman and philanthropist Joe Coulombe, best known as the founder of grocery chain, and the .
“Joe Coulombe started Trader Joe’s in South Pasadena, where he owned and operated it’s precursor – Pronto Market," said Scott Feldmann, President of the . "Many South Pasadena folks recall that adventurous new idea, and are proud to say ‘Trader Joe’s started here!" Feldmann added.

The Friends of the South Pasadena Library are committed to serving the informational, educational, and cultural needs of the patrons of the Library and the community at large.
Rotary President Linda Hunt said, "Both the Friends of the South Pasadena Library and Joe Coulombe are very deserving honorees." Hunt said both honorees fit the definition of "Service Above Self," the motto of Rotary International.

Proceeds from the dinner will provide the majority of the funding for the Rotary Club’s service projects in the 2011/2012 year. Entertainment will be provided by jazz pianist Vic Buxton.
