Heat Wave To Hit South Pasadena

Unseasonably warm weather will move in Friday after a week of below-average temperatures across South Pasadena.

LOS ANGELES, CA — South Pasadena will undergo a wild weather swing in the next 24 hours from unseasonably cold to unseasonably warm, forecasters warn.

After a week of cool temperatures, things will heat up Friday, rising roughly 14 degrees to above-normal temperatures in South Pasadena, according to the National Weather Service. The warm-up will begin Thursday with a slight increase in temperature, but most of LA will remain cooler than usual for this time of year. The real warm-up will get underway Friday, forecasters said.

"The cold air is finally on its way out," said National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Rorke, describing Thursday as a "transitional day" and adding that the warmer weather will result from an approaching high- pressure system.

Friday's warmup will see temperatures rise 12 degrees and 13 degrees in several L.A. County communities, including Downtown L.A., where Friday's high is forecast to be 82 degrees, and Woodland Hills, where the high will be 92. On the whole, L.A. County temperatures will be 5-10 degrees above normal, Rorke said.

The NWS forecast partly cloudy skies in L.A. County Thursday and highs of 66 degrees in Avalon and at LAX; 69 on Mount Wilson; 70 in downtown L.A.; 71 in Long Beach; 74 in San Gabriel; 75 in Pasadena and Burbank; 77 in Saugus; 79 in Woodland Hills; and 80 in Palmdale and Lancaster. Temperatures will be more than 10 degrees higher amid sunshine Friday and remain at those levels -- even amid cloudy skies -- through at least Wednesday.
