Intruder Shot as South Pasadena Mother and Daughter Escape out Bathroom Window
A suspected burglar allegedly chased two women into a bathroom before being shot by police during a standoff.

SOUTH PASADENA, CA -- Details emerged today of the terrifying ordeal of a South Pasadena mother and daughter who awoke to find an intruder in their home, leading to a standoff and police shooting Sunday.
Police were able to help the two women climb out a second story bathroom window to safety, and the suspect was taken into custody.
It all began at a home on the 1300 block of Huntington Sunday morning at 4:26 a.m. Drive when a woman and her 22-year-old daughters discovered a man walking around downstairs, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. After seeing the man, they ran into an upper level bathroom and locked the door as the intruder chased after them and attempted to break in the bathroom door.

“When his attempts failed, the suspect proceeded to ransack the bottom level of the residence,” according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. “The mother called 9-1-1 and notified the South Pasadena Police Department of the incident.”
Not long after, South Pasadena Police arrived to find the suspect still inside the home.

“As the officers walked up the stairs towards the second floor, they were confronted by the suspect,” a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department official said. “It was at this time that an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect then fled from the officers towards a bedroom where he proceeded to barricade himself.”
Having been shot in the shoulder, the suspect surrendered to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
While he was barricaded in the bedroom, police were able to help the woman escape out a bathroom window.
The suspect, whose name was not released, is a 48-year-old man being held on suspicion of burglary.
