Karen Aceves Appointed To Finance Director Of South Pasadena

SOUTH PASADENA, (Calif.) – South Pasadena City Manager Stephanie DeWolfe announced Thursday, Feb. 27, that Karen Aceves has been appointed the City’s finance director.

“Karen was the perfect fit for this position thanks to her in-depth knowledge of the City and strong financial background,” said DeWolfe. “Her wealth of public-sector experience and proven ability to oversee complex projects will allow her to seamlessly transition into this new role.”

Aceves will be responsible for managing the City’s annual budget, financial reporting, treasury, utility billing, accounts payable and payroll.

I am looking forward to leading the City’s finance department and to implementing new strategies to continue the legacy of South Pasadena’s sound fiscal management,” Aceves said.

Since July 2019, Aceves has served as the City’s acting finance director. Prior to that role, she worked as the City’s principal management analyst. During her tenure at the City, she oversaw the preparation of the last three budgets; led two audits; created the first Capital Improvement Project Plan as well as first Grant Management Plan. Additionally, she successfully transitioned the City’s utility billing system and began centralizing the City’s financial management systems. Prior to the City, Aceves managed budgets and projects for the Southern California Association of Governments.

Aceves holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Chapman University and is currently finishing her Masters in Management and Organizational Effectiveness from Michigan State University. She also holds several grant certifications, including Management Concepts, Managing Federal Awards for Sub-recipients and Federal Auditing-2CFR Part F.

She resides in Alhambra with her family.
