Man Found Dead in Area Appears to be Victim of Beating

A man was found dead today in Monterey Park, the apparent victim of a beating, authorities said.

The body was discovered about 4 a.m. in the 500 block of North Florence Avenue, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.

The circumstances of the death were under investigation.
