Man Shot to Death Friday Identified

The man was in the area to get a haircut, according to his mother.

The coroner’s office today identified a 39-year-old man who was shot and killed in Pasadena.

He was identified as Los Angeles resident Monte Russell, said Lt. Dave Smith of the coroner’s office.

The shooting happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Friday in the shared parking lot in the rear of a building that houses several businesses in the 1700 block of East Washington Boulevard, Pasadena police Lt. Jesse Carrillo said. Russell was pronounced dead at the scene, Carrillo said. Russell was in the area to get a haircut, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

His mother, Yvonne Trice, said he had a troubled past and had been involved in gangs but was now a father of three daughters and worked as a tile installer for an Altadena company, according to the Star-News.

No suspect information was immediately available, Carrillo said.
