Los Angeles, CA – Managed Career Solutions (MCS) is excited to join Sabio in sponsoring the WeHack/Southeast Cities “hackathon” starting today, January 15 at 5:00 PM through Sunday, January 17 in the East Los Angeles College Education Center. This three day event will bring together more than a hundred computer programmers from around the region to build creative solutions to some of the toughest problems that residents of the southeast cities of Los Angeles face every day.

The WeHack/Southeast Cities event will offer software engineers, hardware developers, graphic and interface designers, and project managers an opportunity to collaborate intensively on software application projects that can bring substantial benefit to southeast LA communities including South Gate, Cudahy, and Huntington Park. Hackers will work on developing computer-based solutions to overcome the challenges related to traffic, public health, city government, public transportation, child care and open space.

MCS has partnered with Sabio, Southern California’s premier web developer training program, on the OpenTech L.A. Regional Apprenticeship Collaborative Program (OpenTech L.A.), an apprenticeship program that aims to train 1,000 at-risk youth for careers in high-growth technology and biotechnology jobs. MCS was recently awarded with a $2.9 million grant over a five year period from the Obama administration for its role in leading OpenTech L.A.

Cash prizes and complementary food and treats will keep hackers fueled while they work on their laptops, phones, and other mobile computer devices. Both the “hardened hackers” and the “developing developers” are welcome to participate.
