March for Montebello to Support "Shop Local" Efforts

Event Concludes with Celebration at The Shops at Montebello

In an effort to promote local economic stimulation and encourage youngsters and adults to shop local, Simon’s The Shops at Montebello is partnering with the Youth Advocates of Montebello for the third annual March for Montebello on Saturday, October 18.

Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m., in front of Heavenly Choice, located at 534 N. Montebello Blvd.

Meant to support the growth of Montebello pride and local revenue, March for Montebello is a two-mile walk led by student leaders that will move northbound on Montebello Blvd., ending at The Shops At Montebello with a community rally in Center Court, on the center’s lower level.

The celebration will be led by Mayor of Montebello William Molinari and will conclude with a performance by the Montebello Indian Cheerleaders and entertainment by DJ Mark Pacheco.

March for Montebello encourages the city’s young people to shop local to help keep revenue in the local community and become informed about the city’s finances.

“It’s a great day when our youth realizes the importance of supporting our diverse business community and encouraging residents to come together and understand the power of enriching Montebello’s economic future by the simple action of spending dollars in their hometown,” said Councilwoman Christina Cortez, event organizer. “Buy Local & Support Montebello businesses -- it’s a powerful message.”

Supporting community organizations include the City of Montebello, Chevrolet of Montebello, Rotary Club, Montebello Chamber of Commerce, Montebello Police Citizens Patrol and Police Explorers, Schurr High School Drumline, Cook Hill Properties, J’Ts T-Shirt Design, Heavenly Choice, the Montebello Batting Cages, Z’s Metalworks and the Montebello Youth Commission.

Complimentary Bus rides sponsored by the Montebello Bus Lines will be available for senior citizens or those unable to walk uphill. For more information, call 323-728-2728.
