Here's how it works: The site will ask you to input insurance information, zip code, and the type of doctor needed. ZocDoc then provides you with doctor reviews and allows you to see the doctor's schedule.

ZocDoc provides instant appointments, it says, by making efficient use of a doctor’s cancellations. At any given time, there are over 5 million appointments available on ZocDoc nationwide. 

In the South Pasadena and Pasadena area, there are 40,000 available appointments right now, according to the site. 

ZocDoc can be accessed online and through a free iPhone, Android, and Blackberry application.
