New SPMS Arts Building In South Pasadena Unified School District

Measure SP, passed in 2016, allows for $98 million in bonds to fund necessary improvements for schools.

January 12, 2021

In December, SPUSD Superintendent Geoff Yantz hosted a tour of the SPMS old gymnasium, which has been completely renovated into a new Arts Building. Principal Cheryl Busick, drama teacher Myra Maracine, visual arts teacher Denise Tanaka, and science teacher Emily Williams toured the rehabbed building, which houses a black box theater for drama, dance and other related functions as well as a visual arts classroom and a flex lab. The tour allowed the teachers to see the state-of-the-art classrooms and offer input as the District finalizes the furniture decisions and interior design.
Funded through Measure SP, the building is expected to be completed this month. Measure SP, passed in 2016, allows for $98 million in bonds to fund necessary improvements for schools. Every SPUSD school site has seen improvements due to the bond measure, from new and modernized buildings, like the SPMS Arts Building, to safer campuses.
