Even as a seasoned hair stylist with decades of experience under her belt, owner of , Darlene Thornhill, is continously learning. 

"I spend a lot of my time going to school—still," she said, mentioning that she and her 14 hairstylists on staff commonly attend classes at the Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica.

Thornhill fosters a family atmosphere where everyone feels welcome—something she believes to be very important in her line of work. Yet she admits business has been hit by the recent construction on Fair Oaks. 

"Clients would come late and frustrated," she said. "They don't want to come back after a bad experience—and who would?"

While she says there's recently been a decline in walk-ins, luckily many of her cleints use the back door to avoid traffic and dust. Plus, she's hoping her tasteful atmosphere and staff's attentiveness will leave a lasting impression.
