UPDATE: Police Say Officer Kevin Sandoval's Death May be Health-Related
A 23-year-old officer died Tuesday after collapsing at Burro Canyon Shooting range.

“Although witness accounts suggest that Officer Sandoval fell and hit his head during a training exercise, there were no signs of significant head trauma discovered by attending physicians or the medical examiner,” said South Pasadena officials Friday.
Since the Sheriffs’ investigation is still incomplete and the medical examiner has yet to receive results of toxicology tests, officials have refrained from concluding an official cause of death. Police say further details are not being released to respect the privacy of the family.

In addition to medics at the scene performing chest compressions, doctors at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital had failed attempts at reviving Sandoval. Police Chief Joseph Payne, as well as many of his close friends, say Officer Sandoval worked out regularly and was always in good physical condition. Sandoval was a yearly participant in the grueling Law Enforcement “Baker to Vegas” challenge run and regularly ran in the Special Olympics “Torch Run” with other police officers and firefighters, police said Friday.
Services are set for next Friday, June 24 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Irwindale; they will be private and by invitation only to public safety, family members and invited guests. Interment will immediately follow at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills.

UPDATE: Coroner's Officials say a security hold is placed on the death investigation of Kevin Sandoval, 23, the South Pas Officer who died at a firearms training day after falling and hitting his head, City News Service reports Wednesday.
UPDATE: The South Pas Officer has been identified as Kevin Sandoval of Covina, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Ming Hsu. Sandoval was among the South Pasadena and Pasadena police officers training at the Burro Canyon Shooting range when he collapsed about 2 p.m., City News Services reports Tuesday afternoon.
"For unknown reasons, he collapsed during training, and struck his head," Hsu told City News Service. Paramedics, who are members of the Pasadena Police Department's Special Weapons Team, came to the officer's aid, according to authorities. Sandoval was flown to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora where he was declared dead at about 3 p.m.
Sandoval had been a sworn officer with the South Pasadena Police Department for two years and previously a cadet there for 18 months. He is survived by his parents and a sister, Hsu told City News Service. An autopsy is pending, according to reports.
UPDATE: County Fire Inspector Matt Levesque says the officer went into cardiac arrest and was flown by a sheriff's helicopter to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital. He was pronounced dead just before 2:30 p.m., according to City News Service.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A South Pasadena Police officer died from a possible head injury at a training exercise in the Glendora area Tuesday, ABC 7 reported today.
The L.A. County Fire Dept. reported a 23-year-old officer slipped and hit his head at a gun range at East Fork Road and Highway 39 in the Angeles National Forest, according to ABC.
The officer was transported by helicopter to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora. It was not clear if the officer died at the scene, during transport or at the hospital, according to reports.
