Well, the rain hath shone itself for the third day in a row here in beautiful Los Angeles. But the city skyline now looks magnificent at night so I guess we, uh, got that goin' for us. Though I may be the only one to notice. It seems everyone is home! I went to Target and Whole Foods in Glendale yesterday and I didn't have my usual this-far-exceeds-maximum-capacity anxiety attack. So stay inside friends! I like dancing through the vegetable rows. (But I really like not having the constant fear that someone is going to pummel me at any moment.) Shopping for kale has never been so luxurious.
But back to music. I often get phone calls from parents asking what age their child can start on guitar. A great question! One of our fantastic guitar teachers, Matt, suggests not starting until at least six years of age. Most kids' hands are still developing and it isn't until about six that they develop the hand control needed to hold down the strings and get a nice sound on the guitar. From there, students will start to learn a few chords, rhythms and melodies to learn classics like "Yankee Doodle" and "When the Saints Go Marching In." We have a great Kid's Guitar Course series that makes learning quite fun. I, personally, really like the illustrations. What can I say, I'm a sucker for pictures!
Stay dry, LA. And above all, stay classy.
