Wild Weather Closes Roads Across LA County

Flooding, falling trees, downed power lines and the risk of mudslides has forced the closures of roads around Los Angeles County.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Because of the rainstorms, a number of Los Angeles County roads have been closed.

Among the street closures was a section of Malibu Canyon Road in Malibu.

"Malibu Canyon will be closed until after Monday at the soonest, and that may be optimistic, because this bigger rainstorm is coming in Sunday or Monday," said Steven Frasher of the county Department of Public Works. "Until the rocks above the road are dealt with, we can't open up the road safely."

The closures will continue until safe conditions are restored, according to the county Department of Public Works.

Officials also noted that although Bouquet Canyon Road, north of Santa Clarita, remains open, the roadway could be closed at any time, depending on road conditions.

In anticipation of a more severe storm on Sunday, Bouquet Canyon Road is scheduled to be closed between the gates at 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, until conditions and inspection allow.
