Politics & Government

The 2016 Campaign.

The President has a two-term limit -- how about Congress?

With a new presidential campaign season underway disillusioned American voters are already weary of hearing about promises and policies for a bright new future. There seems to be no upward mobility on the horizon. The economy seems to have stalled and we are hanging on by our fingertips. We’re being inundated with requests for money by those running for office – emails, letters with enclosures, phone calls, you-name-it. The president is limited to two terms – why not limit our congressional representatives to the same? We seem to have created a Washington elite, a ruling class who are taking orders from special interests instead of listening to us. This is part of the reason that poll ratings for congress are so low. According to a 2013 Gallup poll, 75% of responging adults favored a two-term limit for the members of congress. The idea is to bring new ideas and innovation to congress. We need people to represent uus who will read all bills before they become laws.

We are borrowing a million dollars a minute from China and sending the money to countries who hate our guts. That little plan seems not to be working. Why not give it up and cut our borrowing and spending? No matter how we proceed we will never be able to close down the thousand-year war in the middle east. Why not bow out of the conflict and let the stakeholders figure it out. Of course we must support our allies like Israel – the only democracy in the region.

We don’t need more government – we need government with more efficiency and better leadership. As citizens of the greatest country in the world we could use a less intrusive leadership. We don’t enjoy being pitted against one another. We want to work together for a strong nation – one that is respected around the world. We resent being told what to eat, what to drive, how to think – we’re still Americans who have the freedom to make our own life choices. We are being watched and listened to – our privacy invaded. If this is a means of protecting us we try to understand.  Why not give the vice president some real duties?  Let him function as a bridge between the voters and the government.

We cringe at our elected representatives who use their office as a stepping stone to a better paying job or higher speaking fees. That’s not what our founding fathers had in mind. Why are our children being educated without learning about our history?

Last of all, we feel betrayed by all the broken promises. Two terms in office should be sufficient time to deliver. Let some newcomers into government – we need innovation to revive the spirit of our great country.
