5 Questions for Principal Susan Kim

A profile of the Valley View Elementary School Principal at her one year anniversary.

SUSAN KIM has been principal at Valley View Elementary School for almost exactly one year. She began her teaching career at this school over 15 years ago, teaching Kindergarten, first and third grades, and was Assistant Principal at Cahuenga, Yorkdale, Magnolia and Melrose Elementary schools. Now she is thrilled to be back here, where it all started.

Interesting tidbit: She was 3 months old when her family moved to the US and only spoke Korean at home, so she learned English when she started Kindergarten.

Happy One Year Anniversary, Ms. Kim!

Q2: What was your first car?

SK: My dad got me a blue 1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when I was sixteen.  It was known as the "Batmobile" in high school.  It certainly wasn't my dream car, but I was happy to have a car at all.

SK: My favorite book and author growing up was "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. As a teacher, I used to read a poem from one of his books everyday to my students.

Q5: What is your favorite occupation?

SK: Principal
