6 Injured in Fireworks Mishaps Across Los Angeles

At least six were injured, and police and firefighters were called for dozens of fireworks-related incidents in a typical 4th of July in LA.

Los Angeles, CA - About three dozen fireworks-related incidents were tallied in the city of Los Angeles on the Fourth of July, with six of them involving injuries, authorities reported today.

The statistics covered the 24-hour period from midnight to midnight on Monday, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

In the eight-hour period from midnight to 8 this morning, there were a half-dozen other fireworks-related calls, Scott said.

"The 2016 quantity of fireworks-related incidents within the LAFD's 470 square-mile jurisdiction are on par with previous years," Scott said.

"The Los Angeles Fire Department reminds the public that all fireworks, even the so-called 'safe and sane' variety, remain illegal in the city of Los Angeles," he said. "Those who use, possess or transport any type of firework in Los Angeles may be subject to criminal prosecution -- or worse yet, painful and debilitating injury."
