Angeleno Campaign Aims To Raise $10M For LA Families In Need

If you are looking to help your neighbors during the pandemic, you can donate to the Angeleno Campaign, which gives cash to needy families.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Angelenos looking to help neighbors hardest hit in the coronavirus pandemic can now contribute to the Angeleno Campaign to raise $10 million for cash assistance to local families.

The fundraising campaign began Monday, and, as early as next week, families can apply for assistance. Families who qualify will receive no-fee debit cards distributed through designated community centers across Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced. The campaign aims to help up to 20,000 Angelenos.

The Angeleno Campaign was seeded with a major contribution from Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook, who was raised in Hawthorne. Donations can be made by texting LALOVE to 21000 or online at mayorsfundla.org/Angeleno.

"It is essential that we keep as many families out of crisis as possible during this time," Garcetti said. "Neighbors helping neighbors can make a huge difference. That's what the Angeleno Campaign is all about."

The Mayor's Fund for Los Angeles bills itself as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to improving life for all Angelenos, supporting programs that will create transformative change across the city.
