Families Welcome at TreePeople's Full Moon Hike
Full Moon Hike for Families - TreePeople at Coldwater Canyon Park - Sunday night August 14. Please reserve at fullmoon@treepeople.org
One of my favorite places in Studio City turns out NOT to be in Studio City after all. Coldwater Canyon Park, at the top of Coldwater Canyon at Mulholland Drive, is the fabulous host for (an incredible nonprofit organization that helps to unite the power of people, trees and technology to grow a sustainable Los Angeles). They have monthly events called Full Moon Hikes, and they are wonderful fun for family participation. The next is scheduled for Aug. 14.
General hiking is at three different levels: short youth hikes with many stops, medium hikes with some stops and long hikes with no stops. You take in awe-inspiring views of the Valley as the moon rises. You experience the beauty of nature on canyon trails, feel the peace and tranquility of your surroundings and get to meet new friends. TreePeople members and three guests are free. Non-members pay $5 each. Tours begin at the Environmental Center. You must make a reservation: fullmoon@treepeople.org or call 818-623-4859. Whether or not you participate in the Full Moon Hike, this is a perfect place to bring children. There are picnic areas, restroom facilities, a recycling center, a cistern, greenhouse, water features, fruit trees, eucalyptus, live oaks, black walnut trees and the most caring volunteers you will ever meet. Full Moon Hike check-in is at 6:30 p.m.; the hike begins at 7:30 and ends at 8:30. Tennis shoes are recommended, and dressing in layers (it gets cold); bring a flashlight and a reusable water bottle. Don't forget your camera. General membership, which allows you to visit and hike the trails any time of day, is $25. You will help to create a healthier society, inspire your children to respect the earth and make our planet a greener one.
