Carpenter Needs Help Planting Trees Saturday Morning

Some major tree planting is being planned Saturday morning.

needs some able hands to help out in planting trees on Saturday morning to beautify the school.

According to Jonathon Lee of the school:

"We'll be planting seven new trees on campus and we'd love to have our Carpenter community help increase our canopy. Bring the whole family, it will be a great event for children to experience as well as their parents. We'll provide coffee, bagels, tools, tree-planting guidance, and the opportunity to partake in a great, new green project at Carpenter. Wear comfortable work clothes and closed toe shoes. Expect to get in the dirt, either digging or replacing dirt around the trees and plants. Don't forget to bring your own water bottles, sun hat/sunscreen, and snacks for your kids. Please let us know if you can make it!"

The trees are being housed on the playground near the auditorium and parent and tree expert Amy Schulenberg prepared the area.

At one point, Principal Joe Martinez wanted the school to vote on the kind of tree that would replace a dead eucalyptus tree that was in front of the school, but since it was optimal planting time they had to make an executive decision.

"It had to be a California native, low leaf, so no littering, it had to be drough tolerand, highly educational, and an urban-setting tolerant tree, and also available," Martinez said. "We chose a Valley Oak."

Stationed at the side of the auditorium, the large tree will be named at some point in the future by the school.

The tree planting will be at 9 a.m. and probably last until 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
