DreamWorks Debuts YouTube Channel

The movie studio makes like a TV network and brings characters such as Shrek, Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda to a computer or smartphone screen near you.

DreamWorksTV debuted on YouTube today.

The YouTube channel will bring DreamWorks Animation characters such as Shrek, Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda to the online world in the role of "vloggers," thanks in part to AwesomenessTV, which was acquired by DreamWorks a year ago and is billed as the fastest-growing online destination for teens.

Series highlights will include family-friendly versions of reality TV, original animated web series and vlog posts from DreamWorks' stable of characters.

"Richie Rich," an original scripted series based on the comic book character, will debut this summer, according to DreamWorks. AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins will oversee the show.

"We're tapping into the invaluable knowledge that Brian has amassed from his success with AwesomenessTV to create a unique, short-form, laugh-out- loud mobile experience for families," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation's chief executive. "This is a huge opportunity for the DreamWorks brand."
