Alan Pasqua - Darek Oles - Peter Erskine

Alan Pasqua,  Chair of Jazz Studies at USC, was born in New Jersey and began studying  piano at the age of seven, playing both classical and jazz. He attended  Indiana University and received his bachelor’s degree in jazz studies  from the New England Conservatory. His teachers at the time were  Jaki Byard, Thad Jones, George Russell, David Baker and Gunther  Schuller. While performing  a concert at Carnegie Hall, Pasqua met the legendary drummer Tony  Williams. Pasqua was asked to join The New Tony Williams Lifetime  along with guitarist Allan Holdsworth. After recording  two “Lifetime” albums for Columbia Records, Pasqua relocated  in Los Angeles. His career in L.A. broadened as he started playing  with more rock and pop artists. He has performed in the bands of  Bob Dylan, and Santana. Some of his other album and touring credits  include: Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Ry Cooder, Aretha Franklin, Al  Jarreau, Elton John, Queen Latifa, Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach.  In the late 1980s, In addition,  he has worked with composers John Williams, Quincy Jones, Dave Grusin,  Jerry Goldsmith, Henry Mancini and Maurice Jarre on motion picture  soundtracks. He is recognized as the co-composer of the “CBS  Evening News Theme”
Also, he composed  the soundtrack for Disney’s hit movie, The Waterboy, starring  Adam Sandler. In the jazz  world, Pasqua is a highly regarded pianist and composer. His two  CD releases, Milagro and Dedications on the Postcards Label hit  the top of the jazz charts. All-stars Jack Dejohnette, Paul Motion,  Dave Holland, Michael Brecker and Randy Brecker are featured on  these recordings. In addition, Pasqua has played and recorded with  the likes of Joe Henderson, Stanley Clarke, Gary Burton, James Moody,  Gary Peacock, Gary Bartz, Eddie Daniels, Dave Weckl, Tom Scott,  Peter Erskine, John Patitucci, Reggie Workman, The Thad Jones/Mel  Lewis Jazz Orchestra, Sam Rivers, Sheila Jordan, Joe Williams, Ivan  Lins, Frank Foster, Alphonso Johnson, Narada Michael Walden, Les  McCann, Stan Kenton and Don Ellis.
Darek Oles – bass Darek “Oles” Oleszkiewicz was born on February 20, 1963 in Wroclaw, Poland.
Darek participated in various jazz festivals and national competitions for young musicians. In 1983, he was the most awarded musician at the Jazz Juniors in Cracow, winning the first individual prize, first prize for jazz composition and a second prize in jazz combo category.  Later that year Darek was invited by Jan Ptaszyn Wroblewski, a jazz legend in Poland, to join saxophonist’s quartet on tour. In the following five years Darek Oleszkiewicz was working steadily with some of the best jazz bands in the country such as: Zbigniew Namyslowski Quartet, Tomasz Szukalski Quartet, Henryk Majewski Quintet, Wojciech Karolak Trio and Andrzej Jagodzinski Trio and Jan Ptaszyn Wroblewski Quartet.  With those groups he recorded for Polish Jazz, Polskie Nagrania, East Wind and also for the radio and television in Poland and abroad. Darek was touring extensively in Poland, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Cuba, Mexico and performed at major festivals, concerts and jazz club venues. 


 


Peter Erskine was born in Somers Point . He began playing the drums at the age of four. He graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy
His professional career started in 1972 when he joined the Stan Kenton Orchestra. After three years with Kenton he joined Maynard Ferguson  for two years. In 1978 he joined Weather Report , joining the legendary Jaco Pastorius  to perform a formidable rhythm section. After four years and five albums with Weather Report and the Jaco Pastorius big band Word of Mouth  His big band recordings with the Bob Mintzer Big Band  are excellent modern big band jazz/funk performances studied by many students of drums and drumming
