Facts and Stats about Coldwater Canyon Closure

Two days and two hours ahead of schedule, Coldwater Canyon Avenue reopened Tuesday afternoon, capping a five-week DWP project to replace a 99-year-old water main.  

Councilmember Paul Krekorian and DWP General Manager Ron Nichols marked the opening of the Valley corridor that had been closed since late March. 

"I'm very, very pleased to be able to announce that Coldwater Canyon is now open to traffic," Councilmember Paul Krekorian said Tuesday afternoon. "This has been a challenge. It's tested our patience, but I would say that the people of the Valley have passed that test with flying colors."

The project had been slated to finish April 25, but a 62 member crew who worked a total of 26 days finished the project ahead of time and under budget.  

While cars are now able to travel freely on the nearly two mile stretch of Coldwater Canyon, between Ventura Boulevard and Mulholland Drive, left turn restrictions remain in place until June 1. Traffic officers will remain in place at the intersection of Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Ventura Boulevard to ensure a smooth flow of cars.
