Harvard-Westlake Student Earns "Perfect Score" on Advanced Placement Exam

Out of millions of students who took Advancement Placement exams in 2014, only 285 earned every point possible. Justin Rose ‘17 was one of them.

AP exams are reported on a 5-point scale, where a 5 is equivalent to a grade of A in the corresponding college course. Justin received the top score of 5 and was one of only 12 students in the world who answered every multiple-choice question correctly and earned full points on the free-response section of the AP Computer Science A exam.

“AP courses and exams are college-level, and require hard work and focus on the part of the students and their teachers,” said Trevor Packer, senior vice president of instruction at the College Board. “On behalf of the College Board, we congratulate the students and community members who make challenging coursework and focused practice a priority, and who motivate and encourage all students to capture their academic potential.”

Says Associate Head of Harvard-Westlake and Head of Upper School Audrius Barzdukas, “Justin is a living example of ‘Good process leads to good outcomes.’ He works hard, thinks creatively, contributes to discussions, and is open to different ideas. We are fortunate to have Justin as a member of our community, and are proud of his achievement.”

Harvard-Westlake School is an independent coeducational college preparatory day school, grades 7-12. The upper school campus is in Studio City, and the middle school campus is in Los Angeles. In 2014, 626 Harvard-Westlake students took 1,788 A.P. tests.
