Two students are semifinalists in the nation's most prestigious science competition for high school seniors.

Seniors Megha Srivastava and Divya Siddarth have been named semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search. The Harvard-Westlake students were two of 300 semifinalists selected for the science research competition out of 1,749 applicants. Students compete for $100,00 in awards with past winners going on to win the Nobel Prize and National Medal of Science.

Entrants were required to complete a 20-page research report documenting independent research. Of the pool of 300 semifinalists, 40 will be chosen to fly to Washington, D.C. to participate in final judging, meet with notable scientists and display their work. Finalists will be announced Jan. 22.
