Harvard-Westlake Upper School in Studio City Awarded a National Prize from Discovery and the Siemens Foundation

Students from Harvard-Westlake Upper School in Studio City  have been awarded a national prize from Discovery Education and the Siemens Foundation. They were named finalists in the Siemens’ sixth annual Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge, the nation’s premier national environmental sustainability challenge that provides K-12 students with the tools and inspiration to improve their schools, communities and world.

“Energy Step”, Harvard-Westlake Upper School’s team was awarded for their project Harvesting Energy from Human Footsteps using Piezoelectricity. Their project investigated methods of using piezoelectric material to help create a cost-efficient and durable device that uses footsteps to generate energy.

Each member of team “Energy Step” will receive a finalist certificate and a Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge green prize pack. Harvard-Westlake Upper School will also receive a congratulatory Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge banner.
