Please allow me the right to vote! I am a resident of California, and
I want my voice to be heard in a special election in June 2011 for
the revenue extension measure. As a Californian concerned with the
dire plight of our public schools, I urge you to vote to place the
revenue measures on the ballot and allow Californians to vote their
conscience in an open election. Our state's children -- and K-12
public education -- deserve a fighting chance!

I have seen firsthand the damage done to our state's schools by
perpetual decreases in education spending. Across California, class
sizes have ballooned, school years have been shortened, librarians
and guidance counselors have been terminated, and art and music
instruction have been reduced or eliminated. In addition, 174 of the
state's 1,077 school districts, or 16%, are at risk of state
oversight due to severe financial distress.

I recognize that this extension of existing taxes will not solve our
funding crisis. In fact, it won't even bring us back to the spending
levels of 2009-2010. However, it is an essential stopgap measure to
avoid any more damage to the future of our children. The consequences
will be catastrophic for our state's long-term outlook if this ballot
measure is blocked.
Please let the people of California Vote!
Please give me the chance to vote in support of K-12 public
education. The future of California as we know it depends on high
quality education for all.
