Kitsch Goes Mainstream—Allee Willis Hits The New York Times

Songwriter and overall character Allee Willis is displayed with her house in the Times.

Super songwriter Allee Willis (you've heard her songs, you just don't know it),  was portrayed in a stunning spread in The New York Times today.

She's often not out to toot her own horn, but as she says, "This one is a special one. A full-page story including 12 photos and on the front page of the Home section."

It's been a long time, but I have been to Allee's house in Studio City/Valley Village about a half dozen times and at her house was David Cassidy, Elvira, Cyndi Lauper, Carrie Fisher, Fabian and other amazing people who call her friends. She was thrilled that I knew Valley Village resident Evelyn Moriarty, who was Marilyn Monroe's stand-in and we went out to a kitschy steak house and had a blast.

She has a Grammy and an Emmy. She wrote the Friends theme song, she wrote September for Earth, Wind and Fire and she wrote Neutron Dance for the Pointer Sisters. (See, I knew you heard something she wrote.)

Anyway, I'm thrilled for Allee, and I hope that we'll get to talk to her more in our Patches. Also, check out her online Kitsch Museum.
